Fast Forward Fashion
We’re interested not only in one-offs and limited editions. We also like the idea of customized creations manufactured in massive multiples. Like the ones we’ve been making since 2002 for Spanish fashion house Zara.
Zara the flagship chain store of the Inditex Group. It’s a well-known secret that Zara needs no more than two weeks to develop a new product and have it in the stores. No advertising for Zara, however; the company prefers investing money in new locations. And indeed, since its establishment in 1975 the fashion chain has sunk its roots into every corner of the earth.
The creative directors of this world player took a shine to the palette of materials we offer. And so our collaboration began with Zara’s in-depth introduction to the myriad possibilities of such materials – total immersion into the world of DK. Since then we’ve been making visual-merchandising objects for Zara’s display windows worldwide: from columns to vases and bowls, and from 1500 to 2000 units each. What’s the procedure? Zara has an idea, makes a rough sketch and our creative team goes to work, interpreting and transforming the original idea into a design that can be fabricated. When Zara approves the design, we make a prototype that’s usually ready for presentation in about a month. Following a short period of modifications – not always necessary – the objects are made by artisans in Asia. From start to finish: three months. OK, it’s not the fortnight that Zara spends moving that new T-shirt from sketch to shelf. But don’t forget –we’ve been working with Zara for seven years, so we’re obviously fast enough.
