Partnership with FG Stijl

We like working with a design agency. The story behind our partnership with FG stijl reflects the way we look at this type of collaborative effort. Read the story of Dutch designers FG Stijl.

The founders of this Dutch agency – English interior architect Colin P. Finnegan and Dutch interior stylist Gerard Glintmeijer – set up their outfit in 1995, and FG has gone on to become an international, prizewinning player in the world of leisure and retail. The agency’s portfolio includes The College Hotel in Amsterdam, The Dominican Hotel in Brussels and the first Jumeirah Resort in Europe. For these and other projects, FG Stijl created not only interiors but, in many cases, special pieces of furniture and graphics. On more than one occasion, the firm designed items such as uniforms and menus. This all under the motto ‘Designed by designers, built for people’.

FG Stijl contacted us regarding a project for Interna, an Italian furniture manufacturer that commissioned Finnegan and Glintmeijer to develop a new hotel-room concept. The idea they came up with is based on the optimum use of a layout that invites guests to adapt the space to their personal taste. Included in the concept are new pieces of furniture, including a cocktail cabinet, a low sofa and two high chairs. While selecting handles for the cabinet, Finnegan and Glintmeijer discovered a very elaborately made example in our collection – a handle that incorporates seashell, ebony, stainless steel, rayon and resin. At FG stijl’s request, we made some hanges in the materialization. The result, as presented to Interna, will appear at Milan Design Week 2010. Peased with the handle from our collection, FG is currently talking to DK Home about completely new designs for the Hyatt Hotel in Düsseldorf, the Jumeirah Hotel in Majorca and new restaurants in Cannes and Qatar. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what FG stijl has up its sleeve for the following project.
